Officers required to command Pennsylvania's quota of militia
Document 1784[Carleton (War Office) to Pres. Dickinson] War Office, July 28th, 1784 Sir, In obedience to the act of Congress of the 3d June last, I do myself the honor to inform your Excellency that the following Officers, besides one Lieutenant Colonel Commandant, one Regimental Surgeon and one Mate, will be required of the State of Pennsylvania to command her quota of Militia to be raised under that resolution for the defence of the Western posts. Artillery, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants. Infantry, 2 Captains, 2 Lieutenants, 2 Ensigns. I have the Honor to be, With the highest respect, Your Excellency's most obed. H'ble Serv't, Jos. Carleton. [Directed] (Public Service) His Excellency, The President of Pennsylvania. War Office 260--3 Companies & 50 men to the State of Pennsylvania. Calculation. Pennsylvania, 75 men to a Company will be 3 Companies & 35 men. New York, 2 Companies 15 men Connecticut, 2 Companbies 15 men Jersey 1 Company 35 men
