[Address panel: Samuel Hodgdon Esqr. / Merchant / Philadelphia]
Boston 14th July 1789
I am favored with yours of the 6th — final Settlements [undecipherable] are much the same at Philadelphia, N York & this Place, for which Reason it may be best to wait a few Weeks & endeavour to obtain them at [undecipherable] —
Mr [undecipherable: Rufel] has denied You as he informs me to draw on him for 2800 Dollars, not having been able to procure [undecipherable] for more than 700 Dollars on Discharge of yr 3500 taken up at your [undecipherable]. We have determined to make further Enquiry for Mills, & shall write you by yr next Post — my two last Drafts he says are paid. Money is so scarce & publick Securities so plenty, that it will not be necessary to hurry the purchase of yr Securities requisite for Land purchases, any more than those in which the 3470 Dollars are to be invested, & if You should not have a prospect of obtaining [undecipherable] at [undecipherable] I think the latter will be sold here very soon at that [undecipherable] & upon your advice, I shall make a disposition accordingly
pray inform me what is done with Killing, & be assured I remain yours sincerely E Gerry
