Poughkeepsie 7th July 1784.
Sir,
The Legislature of this State, at their last Session passed an Act for paying, in Treasury Notes, the Levies and Detachments of Militia who have been in Service during any Time of the War, which Notes are also by the same Act made receivable for Lands — you will doubtless recollect that the Pay Rolls of a Detachment of Militia which were under my Command in the fall of the Year 1779. were lodged in your Office at West Point and also a Warrant of his Excellency Genl Washington for the payment of same — I have therefore to request you to transmit the said Rolls together with the Warrant aforesaid to James McHughes Esqr at New York, and for your so doing this shall be your sufficient Voucher — your most Obedt Servt
