Philadelphia July 6 1784 Dear Sir Your favour of the 26^th Ult informing of your success at the [undecipherable] of your election has come to hand — I think your [undecipherable] respecting an Agent is nothing to recommend that here and direct you in the measure to be a very good one — he is so [undecipherable] that and other being having [undecipherable] and is sufficient testimony for the appointment [undecipherable] the man from his own State, a person competent to [undecipherable] his [undecipherable], & otherwise the United States could not [undecipherable] it — and his note has considered in the [undecipherable] as [undecipherable] Northern Agent — Your sentiments respecting a settlement with the [undecipherable] and virtually I approve of — and wish you [undecipherable] succeed in your expectations of [undecipherable] to general and for the [undecipherable] — The [undecipherable] Regiment has settled for very [undecipherable] thousand except the commutations which you will [undecipherable] settle — I do not know whether having larger sums destroyed or their document & therefore have not yet taken any steps respecting — The three months pay to the Subalterns & two [undecipherable] of the grades for 1782 & the [undecipherable] to the whole [undecipherable] for 1782 & the [undecipherable] for three years also [undecipherable]; with [undecipherable] to the line is [undecipherable] and you will [undecipherable] these within it need [undecipherable] I cannot find the [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] a great [undecipherable] and I cannot any receipt to M^r [undecipherable] [signature] [signature initials]
