Gillelend] [2 July 5. 1784] [Sent] New York July 5^th 1784 Having made application to the [undecipherable] there now Sitting here to wit, Mr. [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for my Certificates for the Year [undecipherable] to kno whether I had a Certificate from you of my not having drawn any pay from you for that Year, without which Certificate they told me I could obtain no Settlement with them for that year. I shall therefore take it kind your being pleased to forward one one as Early as possible, as they will not [undecipherable] long here upon that hope[undecipherable] I have not indeed drawn my Depreciation from them [undecipherable] for the Year I mean the End of that year; who am I to apply to I know not what Settlement Capt. B— has made, nor can I learn where he is — [undecipherable] want of some Satisfaction relative to this matter I depend much on your [undecipherable] to afford me some. I shall consider myself much obliged by [undecipherable] your Certificate on this occasion & [undecipherable] concerning what Settlement C[ap]t.
