[Copy] New York, June 9^th 1784 Sir You may remember my application to you last winter at West Point for the Subsistence then due to me, agreable to your direction. I sent an Order [strikethrough: to General Clinton] some time ago which was returned unanswered I suppose because you were then not in Philadelphia — I have now [strikethrough: have] sent another to Colonel Pickering which I have desired him to present, and wish you to pay if possible. You will consider that my not having received it before is not owing to a want of application from me but rather to the neglect of some of your Clerks in not communicating such applications to you. You may discontinue me on your Estimates after the first of this month, as I have accepted the Surveyor Generals office of this State to which I have been lately appointed and intend to make a resignation of the Geographers Office to Congress as soon as they return to Trenton.
