[from Aaron Bull 8^th June 9. 1784 A land [undecipherable] given] Hartford 1 June 1784 Sir My late Son Epaphras who was a Major in the Southern Army Died, Leaving Three Children without A Mother, Congress having done Something for Such Orphan Children, I take the liberty to Request you will be so Obliging as to Inform me by this bearer Mr. M[undecipherable], what it is and how to be Received. Also I would Wish to Know how the Accounts Stand at the time of his Death, these Informations will Oblige me Much and in Return Should be Happy to Render you Any Service in my Power. Epaphras Bull 1 D[ocument] [Filed]] Philadelphia June 9. 1784 Sir In answer to your first Question what allowance the children of the late Major Bull shall receive from the public, I must refer you to the Resolves of Congress of August 17. 1774 & August 24. 1780 by what you will be informed that the allowance granted is seven years half pay to be made up or joined by the State to which the Officer belonged. In respect to his accounts previous to his Death I find that M[undecipherable] eq not Sheldons Reg^t has drawn some arrears of subsistence due amounting to 56^Dls 90 dolls that on [undecipherable: their/his] way to [undecipherable] he received from me two hundred & twenty five Dolls N[orth] Emissions, after which I am unacquainted with the State of his Accounts, the State of Virginia undertook to close the Officers accounts of their Line to July 1. 1782 and a Deputy of mine in Virginia being to close them afterwards.
