261 John Pierce Esqr. Pay Master General Newburgh March 26. 1784 D Sir, I have received your favour of the 24th with the inclosures. Your forage account will be adjusted in the way you propose. Among other demands of mine, in one for [8Â ?] dollars subsistence of lieut. Ebenezer Brown for June last. He was guar- ter master to Patterson’s brigade, and I paid him is subsistence for that month in cash, and have General Patterson’s receipt for it: but when I was transmitting the orders for the subsistence of Howe’s detachment for that month, I deducted Brown’s __ & Howe’s detachment for that month. I deducted Brown’s__ thinking his subsistence would be included in the account for my department: but it was not. I should imagine he would not afterwards receive the subsistence of you for the same month. If it be not very inconvenient to examine the account of his regiment, I will thank you to do it, and to inform me whether he received his subsistence there for June last__ Colonel Varick is in New York, where his forage account will be settled when I am in cash. I shall wait to move my office to New York, forthwith. Whenthere I asked Capt. Palmer about the schooner, and con- cluded her unfit for the carriage of effects and papers liable to damage from Water. I had therefore determined to embark mine in some private vessel bound to New York. I will now engage one for both of us at the same time but for this end with you to give me some idea of the bulk of your moveables, that I may provide room for them. I am, dear Sir, with great regard Your most obedt. Servt. T Pickering QMG
