[Endorsement: Col. [undecipherable] / [undecipherable] March [undecipherable] 1784]
War. Office March 10th 1784
S
I have been favoured with your Letter of the 24th February last.
Tho not on whole principle you can allow [undecipherable] Troops commendations as he left the Service in 1779 and accepted an appointment in the Treasury Office - it has always been understood that when an Officer quitted the field and went into the Civil line, his military appointments ceased, and he [strikethrough: cannot] could no no longer minister to the emoluments of his Commission. [I]t not reserved to him by a Special act to
Congress, which I do not find in the Journals to have been the case.
Lawrence Myers stands on the records of this Office as a Lieutenant in [undecipherable] independent company commanded by Captain [undecipherable] Paul [undecipherable] - He served therein until its incorporation in the corps of [undecipherable] them, you may safely adjust his commission
