West Point March 6. 1784 D^r Sir In consequence of your letter to me, which I read this morning, I have made an examination of your accounts — I find [undecipherable] Captain amounting to two [undecipherable] for 1781 has been drawn, and your pay [&] extra pay as Asst & Ad [undecipherable] for 1783 amounting to three hundred & five dolts is also drawing — but I do not find that your subsistence up to June 1782 is settled or indeed that of the Rigiment your pay in 1781 & 1782 is entirely omitted. I find several charges against you not only for the old Paymaster accounts but your subsistence seems to be charged from 1781 & 1782 accounts they amount to 317 dol[undecipherable] I have not delivered your certificate as I am perplexed about your extra pay up to the appointment of your Father as a General there never having been an instance yet of a Colonel being allowed as Aid — your old money accounts ought also to be attended to, it being a part of my duty to see them closed previous to a final settlement; and as regard to your subsistence in the Illinois regiment it would settle the matter for the Officers for Illinois regiment settlement.
