Hills West Point --- Cornwall Feb^y the 14^th 1784 Sir In your favour of the 10^th of January, you informed me the Certificates for the Connecticut Line, were all ready to be Delivered to the Regimental Agents when they Should call for them, but Sir if I did not much mistake your conversation at Litch field, you informed me you was Authorised to deliver them to any Person without their producing a Certificate of their legal appointment for That Purpose — Then informed you there was none in the Connecticut Line that could produce such Certificates, or that had Appointments for any other purpose but to settle the accounts of the Regiments — you then informed me as soon as Congress should meet you would obtain an appointment of Some Person to receive and distribute the whole; and M^r Beers was mentioned as the Person — and I had not a doubt untill I receivd your letter by Capt Conway but that the matter would be complicated in that way. On receiving your letter I have wrote to our Delegates in Congress informing them was no Agents was appointed for the Connecticut Line and distribute the Certificates, and requested them to obtain an appointment of some Person for the purpose. I hope and expect some Person will soon be appointed to compleat the business for the whole Line, and request the favour of you to compleat the Certificates of the Accounts of the late 2 — and the Connecticut Regiments which M^r Clark has Delivered in since I left the Point — Sir if you have been so fortunate as to receive any Money Since I wrote me, I request the favour of you to send the money due on the warrant I left with you in favour of the 2^d Connect. Regiment by Capt. Hills to whom I have sent a blank order or Receipt and desire you to fill it up agreeable to your wish — Sir M^r Clark informs me you will not allow the Officers of the late Connect. Regiment Pay any longer than those who left Service the June before Seven or eight months before them — I expected as the Regiment was not Disbanded or any General or Particular order for their being Discharged that their Pay would have been continued untill an order for Disbanding the Reg^mt or Discharging them, Major Wyllys and myself did not leave the Point untill the 12 of Novem^r — I am Dear Sir with "Great Respect your Obd^t Servant Clemens Silift John Pierce Esq^r
