[Docketed: 1 Lieut. Wm Scudder, / Feby 15th 1784 / Encls]
West Point Feby 15. 1784
Sir
I have received your letter of the 16 Ulto and on examination found the amount was not so much as I believe was what you wanted at the war Office. I cannot at this place pay the money tho it may probably be obtained at Philadelphia where [you having been] so lately, if you [undecipherable] just be better of them myself — if you thinks you cannot succeed there it will be best to give up the warrants and take certificates.
I am, Sir with esteem
Your Obedient Servt
Lieut. Wm Scudder
