We have not been able either to locate a better copy of the document, or to enhance its legibility electronically] [from [W]anschoton Jan^y. 30. 1784] Poughkeepsie January 30^th 1784 This will be handed you [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for the Subsistence of the Officers of the Bat- talion lately under my Command for the present month, which although the Battalion are now disbanded I presume you will think reasonable we should be paid, when you are informed that the orders for discharging the Battal[ion] did not arrive till the 3^rd & the men could not be discharged till the 6th & 7th of the month — Most of the Officers are at a great distance from their homes they [undecipherable] of their Subsistence not being [paid] them for [undecipherable] four months past, unable to [undecipherable] their [undecipherable] & entirely destitute of the means of getting home — I am Sir Your most humble Ser^t [undecipherable] [To the Secretary [undecipherable]]
