Philadelphia Jan. 11, 1784 M^r Pierce Sir Having furnish'd One hundred and Twelve Men in the First, Second, & Third Mass^ts Regiments, when in this City with Cash and Merchandize to the amount of their pay, Being 2196 Dollars; chiefly all for the months of May, June & July; A Copy of which is lodg'd in the hands of their Paymasters; M^r Egleston, M^r Danforth and M^r Neilson; He chiefly all Attested, by their paymasters; I Should Esteem it a particular favor if M^r Pierce will favor me with a Line by Return of Post and acquaint me whether any moneys have been granted by the State of Massachusetts for pay for their Troops; and if so, you mention me to their paymasters; your Acquainting me what way would be the best for me to pursue on this Particular would lay me Under an Obligation & always Remember'd with Gratitude.
