[page illegible] West Point January 14. 1784 I do myself the honor to inclose to you for your information [strikethrough: satisfaction], estimates of the Subsistence of the Army for December & January. The delay of the money for the last month has [strikethrough: not] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] occasioned my transmitting the estimate, tho' I suppose tho it ought to come from the War Office. & [strikethrough: has been a considerable] the in-convenience to the Officers discharg'd the service tis not receiving December Subsistence has been considerable, which occasions are to [strikethrough: particularly] that request it may be put into my hands. [strikethrough: The expense of my Office have, but?] Being myself out of money for the necessary supply of my own as well as the necessities of the Gentlemen who after me, and to advance them their pay, I must request that you will be pleased to put into my hands seven or eight hundred Dols for that purpose. The January [undecipherable] of the present Month being [undecipherable] to be paid, is disagreeable and I cannot add money to any Officers under [undecipherable] and they have no right to draw provisions. [strikethrough: undecipherable] I should [undecipherable] of opinion that a [undecipherable] is [undecipherable] the public and the Officer, that a more even subsistence be drawn and vacations.
