I have the honor to transmit you by the conveyance a duplicate of one Letter of the 31st of August, since which nothing notable hath occurre[d], except it may be the [unclear Latin] [unclear] [unclear Latin] declination of the army, in [unclear] [unclear] Essentials of efficient operation; In that Letter I omitted a communication, which it was my duty & my intention to have made[?] to you, and which I now beg leave to trespass on your attention.

In the Postscript of my letter of the 30th June, I gave you the assurance, that General Scott[?] should be immediately served with a transcript from such parts of that Letter, as personally respected himself; this intention was prescribed[?] by the servicibility of an injured soldier, & the principle of an honest man, but on second thought a solicitude for the success of the campaign [unclear] paramount to every other consideration [unclear] which I [unclear] might demand on &
