Weest Point, May 18.1798. Sir, (four favor of the 14th instant I received yesterday evening. I inclose [enclose] you an account of the dimensions & weight of 5 irons 4 pounders. There is now a sloop at the dock to take on board the 4 iron garrison 18 pounders, their carriages & the 5 carron iron 4 pounders. I will forward with the 5 carron 4 pounders the two iron 4 pounders mentioned in the inclosed, weight as follows G.2 Qs.17 & 7.3Qs.0 [?] as they nearly match the carron pieces: This I suppose you will approve of, as you are in want of such pieces. The whole are ready to ship. I will ship them on board the sloop tomorrow. From the center of the trunnions to the extremity of the breech of the 5 carron pieces is 23 inches & 5f/2 tenths: the trunnions of these pieces have no shoulders to them. the second reinforce ring projects two tenths of an inch from the metal.
