Feb. 24th 1800

Sir,

I shall be much obliged if you will let me have Fifty eight Dollars to be deducted out of my quarters Salary. the unfortunate loss sustained by my mother on her return from Norfolk has put her a little backward in the payment of rent. I wish to help her out. I can only look to your kindness to enable me to do it. She sells all off in May & goes to Charleston to live with my brother Smith. I shall not be again necessitated to ask an advance of you.

I am Sir very respectfully yours.
