as well as a deposit of arms

whole or such a part only such as is found necessary for the defence of the garrison
to this question it is difficult to give you any other answer than that it will be proper for you to receipt to the state for its property of every description which may be be confided to your care
but at present the fotress on Castel Island as very imortant to the defence of the harbor and city
it is not contemplated for the United States
to pay for such artifles as may be there and not necessary for the purpose of supplying the fortress
such articles as are necessary to wait to return from you.
