Description
Letter from Captain Thomas Truxtun, captain of USS Constellation overseeing construction, addressed to Timothy Pickering. Truxtun reports that Mr. King is well acquainted with work on constructing lead and copper. He once worked in some of the principal manufacturies in England. Truxton has tested the bolts. He recommends to Joshua Humphreys that the bolt heads be covered with steel to prevent them from being battered. Keel pieces are being manufactured of live oak. Common bay craft are bringing timbers from Mr Spriggs' place at West River. Items authorized has been completed by naval agents Samuel and Joseph Sterret. The navy yard is in good order. Truxtun laments the lack of live oak supply coming from Georgia and suggests that he may have to lay off some workers if he does not receive more live oak.
