The following is an Injunction
which Mr Peter Schuyler gave to Mr
Campbell Secretary to the Commissioners
of the United States appointed to negotiate
with the Indians upon Mr Campbell,
having delivered to Mr Schuyler a Letter
from the Commissioners in which they
Observed to Mr Schuyler the Impropriaty
and Offensive nature of his conduct in
appearing at this Treaty at Fort Stanwix
with an Interpreter and giving Liquors
to the Indians as if he was a Commissioner
and by Various direct and indirect Means
counteracting the negotiation which they
were holding with the Indians~~which
Injunction had neither Seal nor Signature
to it and was taken from a Paper containing
other Directions to Mr Schuyler, and which
Injunction Mr Schuyler understood that he
received from the Governor of the State
of New York: ~ Viz ~ copy of the Said
Injunction which Mr Schuyler delivered
to Mr Campbell ~ to wit ~~
"The said Peter Schuyler together
with Peter Rightman as an Interpreter
is directed to attend at Fort Stanwix during
the Time the commissioners [undecipherable] [undecipherable]
[undecipherable]
Shall hold their Treaty with the Indians to Observe the conduct of the Commissioners of the United States and to oppose and frustrate any of their Proceeding, which might eventually effect [underlined] the Interest of the State of New York,.~
The foregoing Injunction being delivered to the Commissioners by Mr Campbell, without any written attestation of it by Mr Schuyler, Mr Campbell was directed the day after it being delivered to go to Mr Schuyler and desire him to attest the copy as an Injunction which he had received from the Governor of the State of New York, Mr Campbell in Obedience to this order went to Mr Schuyler and upon his return to the Commissioners reported to them that he had [undecipherable][undecipherable][undecipherable][undecipherable][undecipherable]seen Mr Schuyler and informed him that it was the wish of the Commissioners that he would Authanticate the copy as an Injunction which he had received from the Governor of the State of New York and that he had passd the saidcopy into Mr Schuylers Hands for the Purposes that he proclaimed - And that Mr Schuyler as soon as he got the copy into his Hands tore it into Pieces ~ Nos Bd viz [vertical squiggle]
