Transcription [Administrative note in top margin, most likely made by a later cataloguer, reads:
[1784 July] 2348 1.]
You most probably have been informed of being chosen
with Mr Patridge, and myself, to examine the encroachment
of the british on the eastern line of this State, and to endevor
to form some compromise with the Penobscot Indians
respecting the Lands which they now occupy -- Will
you accept the commission? and if so, when will it
be agreable to you, to go upon the business. It is
my wish that we might set out the commencement
of the week after next. If it agreable to you &
Mr. Patridge to go at that time, it will be necessary
to make some previous provision, as to Stores and a
Vessell - It is proposed to send us in the State Yatch.
I have not seen her, but it is generally said
to be too small. I will thank you to Let me
know as soon as possible.
I am your affectionate
