Joseph Clay Esq
Since my Letter of Yesterday was put on Board of the Vessel going for Savannah, I have been directed by the Board of Treasury to send for the money which you say is in the hands of a Mr. Russell in Charleston, and I have accordingly drawn an order on him for it, in favor of Mr. John Neuville Loan Officer for South Carolina, but as Mr. Russell may have receipted for it to deliver to your order, which may criate a difficulty. I am to request that you will transmit to Mr. Neuville your order in his favor, whereby Mr. Russell shall be discharged from the same on his taking Mr. Neuville's receipt promising to account for it to my order or to that of the Commissioners of the Treasury, which mode of transmitting the money shall also be to you a compleat discharge-----
